Why Therapy?

The reasons a parent makes the important decision to bring their child to therapy vary greatly.  Your child may be going through an intense transition and need help dealing with their new reality.  Or perhaps your child has had deep emotional problems that you have always known existed and cannot ignore any longer.  Maybe your child experienced a serious trauma and you are unprepared and unskilled in handling the consequences.

Whatever the reason that you are reading this page, our trained child therapists are equipped to handle your child’s difficulty.

Reasons to pursue child therapy include:

  • Anxiety

  • ADD/ADHD symptoms

  • Obsessive-compulsive behaviors

  • Trouble in school

  • Addictions

  • Experienced abuse or neglect

  • Life transition such as parent’s divorce

  • Difficulty adjusting to a new environment

  • Loss of a loved one

  • Autism symptoms or concerns

  • Eating disorders

  • Behavioral problems at school or home

  • Illegal drug use

  • Emotional or psychological problems

The reason you are considering therapy for your child may have popped out from that list immediately.  Or perhaps the problem is a combination of several items on the list, or did not appear at all.  You, as the parent, are the expert on your child.  If you feel that something is just not right, or you feel seriously unsettled about something with your child, do not ignore that feeling.

Sometimes children are just going through a phase or having a difficult time adjusting to a new setting.  The teenage years were difficult for many of us.  How many would want to return to middle school?  Maybe the problems your child are facing are normal patterns in life, but maybe they are not.  Even if the challenges your child are confronting are “normal,” they may still need help processing their feelings and emotions, and a child therapist may be just the right person to assist your child in that journey. We are here to guide you with empathy and support.
