Art Therapy

At different stages, children may not have the language skills to express themselves, but they still require an outlet for their voice. Creating art is a natural form of expression for children. Kids have an innate ability to develop a strong imagination followed by unrestrained creativity. Art therapy can awaken a child’s imagination and help him share his thoughts, ideas, and feelings with you and others. When children have been exposed to early trauma, whether directly like with bullying or indirectly like witnessing domestic violence, they can develop depression and anxiety. These are serious disorders that if left untreated, could be extremely detrimental to the overall health of a child. Working with trained art therapy personnel provide children with a creative space that allows non-verbal expression, providing an outlet for emotions left unsaid. Children with ADHD find art therapy calming, as the act of creating art causes an increase in serotonin and a reduction of stress hormones.

If your child is struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges, we can guide him through a creative process to help him unpack his stress and create positive coping mechanisms that are effective for him. Expression through art is a safe outlet for children to identify and understand their emotions. Providing a safe channel for negative emotions through an enjoyable activity is fun for your child and can accelerate both healing and growth.
